Loudoun Veg is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a compassionate, sustainable community in Loudoun County by promoting consumption of plant-based foods and advocating for animal rights.

We are an inclusive organization and welcome anyone who shares our commitment to healthy, healing food, environmental stewardship and kindness to ALL.  Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian, veg curious, or just plain curious, feel free to join us at our events and see what we’re about.

Loudoun Meatless Mondays

On April 24, 2012, the Leesburg Town Council issued a proclamation of support for Loudoun Meatless Mondays as 14 culinary venues got on board to promote vegetarian and vegan food one day a week.  For more information about our campaign, visit www.loudounmm.com and/or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Worldwide Vegan Bake Sales

We had a great time last May when we teamed up with Compassion for Animals for our first ever Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale and fundraiser, raising $650 for vegan outreach supported by our organizations.   We wrapped up the year with two more vegan bake sales in December, raising $900 for outreach activities.

Many thanks to our awesome hosts Penni & Dewey from Earthworks and Sola from The Pink Shop, as well as all the incredible vegan bakers who contributed all those delicious vegan goodies, and the volunteers who helped everything run so smoothy the day of the sale!

Fresh Veggies for Interfaith

Loudoun Veg is proud to help bring fresh produce from the Leesburg Farmers Market to the Loudoun Interfaith Relief again this spring.  We are grateful to Loudoun Valley Homegrown Markets for helping coordinate this effort.  Many thanks to the very generous vendors who share their unsold produce.

Tabling & Outreach

Tabling events have ranged from health fairs to eco-fests, business breakfasts to street fairs.  We’ve also been doing a lot of cooking demonstrations at a variety of venues.

Loudoun Veg Out Guide

In April 2012 we published our Loudoun Veg
LoCo_Cuisine.html
Out Guide that catalogues the most vegan-friendly culinary establishments in Loudoun County.  We are especially grateful to the Loudoun Tourism Board for helping us finance the printing and distribution of this brochure.  We hope this guide will serve as both an incentive for local chefs to add more vegan dishes to their menus and a useful resource for anyone looking for a place to enjoy a vegetarian/vegan meal in Loudoun County.

Volunteers Needed

Loudoun Veg is an all-volunteer organization with lots of opportunities to get involved.  We’re looking for people to help us manage our programs and administrative activities, including tabling and educational activities, social outings, fundraising, and our Loudoun Meatless Monday campaign.  If you or someone you know may be interested in helping out, please email loudounveg@gmail.com

Film Screenings

Last year Loudoun Veg hosted the Virginia premiere of the award-winning documentary Vegucated.  The event was a great success, bringing vegans, vegetarians and veg-curious folks together for an afternoon of enlightenment, networking and, of course, vegan goodies.

We followed that up this year with a screening of Forks Over Knives in February.

Continuing our Community Outreach in 2014

2013 was a great year for spreading the veg message through tabling, bake sales, meal swaps, Meatless Mondays and other fun activities. We also expanded our outreach efforts to share healthy vegan food with the those members of the Loudoun community who don’t always know where their next meal is coming from.

Building on our gleaning program with the Leesburg Farmers Market and Loudoun Interfaith, we conducted cooking demonstrations to share food, along with recipes and groceries to make dishes at home. We also be kicked off the first annual Vegan Food Stamp Challenge in October, asking people to Think Globally and Act Locally as we raise awareness about the economic challenges facing many of our neighbors here in Loudoun and around the world.

We’re very excited to continue to build on these activities in 2014.  For more information about what we're doing or how you can be involved, email loudounveg@gmail.com
